We have an exciting opportunity to share with you in today’s blog. If you know of any students between the ages of 11-14 in the Glendale or Alhambra school districts, keep reading! 

Have you heard of the CARE Coalition’s Youth Leadership Council (YLC)? The YLC meets once a month and gives youth members a chance to have their voices heard in the community, learn about healthy relationships, create powerful messages aired on the radio, and of course, learn leadership skills. We believe it’s important for everyone’s voices to be heard and working with members of the YLC gives all of us a chance to hear from today’s youth. Our vision is to create optimal adolescent health, not only through our Prevention Team programs, but through services, awareness, and education. We aim to build resiliency and empowerment by giving youth a voice. By getting involved in the YLC, youth participants work together to gain helpful skills while building a strong community. 

The YLC meets on the third Wednesday of each month, from either 4-5 pm (Alhambra) or 4:30-5:30 pm (Glendale). Currently, the meetings are being held virtually. However, we hope to continue in-person meetings in the near future! This is a year-round club, which is very exciting for kids to look forward to in the summer months! By opening it up to the entire Alhambra and Glendale school districts, students get to interact with students from other schools within their respective districts. Aside from monthly meetings, students can look forward to creating and recording public service announcements at a radio station, and participating in workshops, youth conferences, and other community events. We also like to get the students’ families involved a few times throughout the year, once we are back to in-person meetings. 

So, if you know of any students between the ages of 11-14 with a passion for making a difference in their community and the drive to be a leader, we encourage you to get them involved.
