This month we would like to share the dangers of “cocktailing” which is mixing alcohol and medications together. Did you know, many medication bottles have labels that will warn you of the dangers of mixing pills and alcohol and the possibility of harmful side effects including death? It’s always a good idea to read the label before taking any medications and It’s never a good idea to drink alcohol while taking medications for many reasons.

Did you know, one of the leading cause of most overdoses is when mixing opioids such as Hydrocodone, Oxycontin, and Hydromorphone with alcohol because it enhances the effects of the medication, which can increase sedation, leading to sleepiness, cause breathing problems and at worst, can lead to an accidental overdose? Also, Sedatives like Ativan, Xanax, Valium, and Klonopin have a huge effect on the body when cocktailing with alcohol because it can result in an emergency visit to the hospital because when mixing these drugs it can cause unconsciousness and even death. Antibiotics another type of medication that when cocktailing with alcohol, can make the medication less effective or completely useless when fighting bacteria. It’s vital to talk to your doctor or pharmacist about the types of medication you are taking and how they interact with alcohol. The safest thing to do is DON’Tconsume alcohol with taking medication. It’s not worth the risk.

Bottom line, don’t mix alcohol and medication “cocktailing” it’s a RECEIPT for death!
